explain the process of reproduction in humans

        Human reproduction is usually by sexual reproduction methods. The woman’s ovum (female reproductive cell or gamete) is fertilized by the man’s sperm (male gamete). One spermatozoon penetrates the large ovum coat. It merges with the egg with the help of enzymes.


    The zygote cell gets transformed into an embryo. Mitotic divisions and cellular differentiation processes take place. Later on the process of morphogenesis starts giving a shape to the foetus. Foetus receives nutrition and Oxygenated blood from the mother.  

    

    There are 23 chromosomes in each of the gamete cells of the parents forming the zygote. (In the other cells of humans there are 23 pairs of chromosomes.)  They merge into 23 pairs of chromosomes inherited by the child.  The combination of chromosomes determines the sex of the child born. 


    After the gestation period of nearly 9 months, the fetus develops completely. Then the childbirth occurs. The childbirth is often a painful process for the mother. After the child birth, the infant breathes fresh air, starting his/her life. That completes the reproduction process.


   Very good care has to be take during the pregnancy period for a proper birth of the child and for the good health of the mother.  Otherwise, reproduction process will be at risk.


   Nowadays this fertilization of ovum is also done by artificial insemination.
