I am answering your question with reference to human. In human beings sex is determined by the male gamete i.e., THE SPERM. The female gamete carries only one type of genotype i.e.,it is homozygous xx. If the ovum is fertilised by Y type of allele the baby born would be a boy and if it is fertilised by X type of allele then the baby would be a girl.
