1. Fill the beaker with water.

2. Put the dry grapes into the beaker and let it soak for sometime

Observation:

Dry grapes becomes swollen because of the process called Osmosis. Water (the solvent) penetrates into the semi-permeable membrane of dry grapes. (i.e) from region of lower concentration of solute to higher concentration.

3. Now add excess amount of sugar into the beaker.

Observation:

After some time, the swollen dry grapes shrink back again. This is because of the process called Exosmosis.

Here, sugar solution is hypertonic in nature. Water content is more inside dry grapes. Water moves out of dry grapes into the concentrated sugar solution and thus it shrinks.
