A volcanic eruption is said to take place when molten rock, which is known as magma along with several gases (hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide, water vapour, etc.) ,lapilli (solid rock ejections), volcanic ash and other materials are ejected from a volcanic crater after emerging from a magma chamber through volcanic vents or conduits due to disturbances, building up of pressure, high temperatures, etc. The magma once it reaches the surface is called lava, the rock ejections are called pyroclastic rocks. Lava from different volcanoes has a different chemical composition. Volcanic eruptions commonly take place along plate boundaries . The lava cools and solidifies eventually to form landforms.

5 examples of volcanoes are : Mt. Merapi (Philippines) , Mt St. Helens ( USA), Mt. Kilauea ( Hawaii, USA) , Barren Island Volcano ( Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India), Mt. Krakatoa (Indonesia).
