I would separate a sulphur and copper mixture by adding carbon disulfide CS2 to the mixture. The CS2 would dissolve the sulphur and leave the copper.
Some people have suggested that nitric acid could be added to the mixture to dissolve the copper … BUT nitric acid added to sulphur will produce sulfuric acid, which will attack the copper – not a good idea.
So, adding carbon disulphide CS2 to the mixture would be my choice.
