After the withdrawal of the Non Cooperation Movement,the Congress was divided into two groups. The two groups were,
i)Pro-changers led by C.R.Das and Motilal Nehru.
ii)No-changers led by Vallabhbhai Patel and Rajendra Prasad.

In the countryside, rich peasants were active in the civil disobedience movement.
Being producers of commercial crops, they were hard hit by the trade depression and falling prices.And thus they found it impossible to pay the government's revenue demand.
As a result, these rich peasants enthusiastically participated in the movement. They organised communities and participated in the boycott programmes.
But they were deeply disappointed when the movement was called off in 1931, without their demands being fulfilled.
Whereas, poorer peasantry demanded lowering of revenue as well as exemption from rent.But since the Congress was unwilling to support these demands, their participation dwindled in the movement.
