Prophase I Leptotene: The homologous chromosomes replicate. Zygotene: Synapsis between homologous chromosomes start. Pachytene: The sister chromatids separate but the homologous chromosomes remain attached. Diplotene: The two homologous chromosomes migrate apart and disintegrate between the chromosomal arms.
