The Constitution has not any fixed tenure of a judge of the Supreme Court. However, it makes the following provisions in this regard:

- He holds the office until he attains the age of 65 years.

- Question regarding his age is to be determined by such authority and in such manner as provided by Parliament.

  • In order to become a Judge, one has to fulfill:
  1. He/She has to be a citizen of India
  2. The also have to be a Judge for a High Court, or two or more Courts, in succession, for at least a tenure of five years.
  3. He/she can also be an Advocate Of High Court, or two or more Courts in succession, for at lest a tenure of ten years.
  4. He/she has to be a distinguished jurist, as per the President's opinion, power conferred by clause 2 of article 124 of the Constitution of India.
  5. The working tenure is till he/she becomes sixty five years.
  • Thus, the above requirements are meant to be fulfilled in order to be a Judge.
