The transfer of electrons from one substance to the other is lead to charging of the bodies. It is found that the charge on anybody is always equal to integral multiple of the charge of electron. ... This property of charge is known as quantisation of electric charge.

Charge quantization, then, means that charge cannot take any arbitrary values, but only values that are integral multiples of the fundamental charge (charge of proton/electron). ... Note, however, that in the case of quarks, the quantization is different - they are in multiples of 1/3 the fundamental charge ( ).
