This reaction is a chemical displacement reaction. A chemical displacement reaction occurs when a more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from its aqueous salt solution. According to the metal reactivity series, Iron (Fe) is more reactive than Copper (Cu), so it displaces the copper from its solution and replaces it. For eg. If u place an iron nail in Blue Vitriol (Hydrated Copper Sulphate), You will see that in some time, the blue solution turns green and there are reddish deposits on the nail. The green solution is nothing but Ferrous Sulphate and the reddish deposits are nothing but copper.
