Acid base reaction: When an acid and a base are placed together, they react to neutralize the acid and base properties, producing a salt. The H(+) cation of the acid combines with the OH(-) anion of the base to form water. The compound formed by the cation of the base and the anion of the acid is called a salt.

Answer:

Acid and base reaction is called neutralization reaction. It is called so because acid neutralizes a base and vice versa. Bases are soapy and bitter, while acids are sour. When an acid combines with a base it neutralize the action of the base to produce two products: A salt(the salt produced depend upon the reactants involved) and water. Water is formed because the H+ ion from acid, and OH- ion from base combine to give H2O. Ex: NaOH(aq) + H2SO4(aq) ------> NaSO4(aq) [Salt] + H20(l) [Water].
