Explain the reaction of Indian people against the Rowlatt Act passed through the

The Rowlatt Act of 1919, gave the government enormous powers to repress political activities, and allowed detention of political prisoners without trial for two years.                                                                                          

Mahatma Gandhi decided to launch a nationwide Satyagraha against such unjust law,  which would start with a hartal on 6 April.

a) 6 April 1919 was observed as the day of non-violent civil disobedience against the  unjust law and was started with a hartal.

b) Rallies were organized in various cities, workers went on strike in railway workshops,  and shops closed down.

c) Local leaders from Amritsar were arrested. Mahatma Gandhi was barred from  entering Delhi.

d) On 10 April, the police in Amritsar fired upon a peaceful procession which provoked  widespread attacks on banks, post offices and railway stations. Martial law was  imposed on most of the parts of the Punjab.
