When the rate of transpiration decreases while the rate of absorption is high, a greater root pressure is generated.
As a result, the water in the form of water droplets come out of the hydathodes (opening present at the leaf margins). This process is known as guttation.
Therefore, the dew we see on grasses is the result of guttation as the rate of transpiration decreases at night whereas the plant is absorbing water continuously.
