India was partitioned by the Mountbatten Plan ,In 1947.
The British were under heavy pressure due to the World War II. British P.M Attlee announced that india would be gaining independence b4 June , 1948.
Mountbatten was to suggest which of the 2 plans was better. 1)giving power to India as a whole where the provinces would be more powerful or 2)Dividing the country.
Mountbatten understood that the Muslim League wouldn't accept anything else the creation of Pakistan or They would start a civil war.
FOR THIS REASON MOUNTBATTEN PARTITIONED INDIA AND TRANSFERRED POWER BY AUGUST 1947.
