explain the reason for the following why dust comes out of a carpet when it is beaten with a stick

it is due to inertia of rest......when a carpet is beaten with a stick , the carpet possess a motion but the dust particles due to inertia of rest remain unaffected n hence they come out of the carpet when it is beaten with a stick !!!
