The Lahore session of the Congress held in 1929 was known as the historical session because of the following reasons: 1.The aim of the Indian National Congress was to attain complete independence or 'Poorna Swaraj'. 2.Jawaharlal Nehru was sworn in as the new President of the Congress

The Congress leaders were tired of the fake promises of the British to give India it's freedom. In the Lahore session of Congress they passed a 'Poorna Swaraj' resolution (complete independence). Jawaharlal Nehru was the president of this season. He declared that 26th January 1930 will be the day when India will get its complete freedom. It was decided that 26th January would be celebrated as the independence day but we got our independence on 15 August.
