There’s two things going on here.

The first is that a “still room” probably isn’t as still as you think, especially if there’s sunlight or a light bulb involved. Those were cause convection currents due to unequal heating. If you want a *still* room, you’re looking at sealing up *all* the cracks and drafts, turning off the lights, letting it sit with the door closed (don’t forget the cracks there either) for several days, and then looking into it from another dark room through a window in the wall.

Yeah. It really *is* that hard to do.

And even if you manage that, you’re still going to be dealing with Brownian motion, which is due to the statistical nature of air pressure as a measure of the average velocity of the molecules. If one side gets hit by more molecules than the other for a hundredth of a second or so, that’s going to nudge it in one direction, and then another, as different sides have a short burst of impacts.
