The winds cause waves on the surface of the ocean (and on lakes). The wind transfers some of its energy to the water, through friction between the air molecules and the water molecules. Stronger winds (like storm surges) cause larger waves.

Hello dear,
I assume you're talking about generation of wind waves.
● Generation of wind waves -
- Wind waves are the surface waves that occur on the free surface of bodies of water.
- When energy is passed through water, circular motion develops which gives rise to waves.
- Wind waves are generated by blowing of wind over water surface. This creates a disturbance in continuous flow of water & transmits as wave crest.
Thanks for asking..
