1) Firstly, the impure metal is made the cathode whereas a thin strip of pure metal is made the anode
2)They are dipped in a solution containing the metal salt (copper chloride)
3)Electricity, on passing through them, the pure metal will get attached to the anode whereas the impure metal will deposit below the anode as anode salt.
In this way, copper is refined by electrolysis.
