Explain the role of armature brush and split rings

1) Armature- Rotates when electric current is passed hence its kinetic energy can be used for various purposes. 2) Brushes- Maintains contact of the armature coil with the main circuit while rotating. 3) Split Rings- Prevents the rotation of the main circuit while the rotation of armature coil.

(i) Armatures The armature's role is twofold. The first is to carry current across the field, thus creating shaft torque in a rotating machine or force in a linear machine.

(ii) The function of brushes is to make contact with the rotating rings and through them to supply current to the coil.

(iii) Whereas, split rings acts as a commutator, i.e, a device that reverses the direction of flow of current through a circuit.
