Explanation:

The diaphragm, located below the lungs, is the major muscle of respiration. It is a large, dome-shaped muscle that contracts rhythmically and continually, and most of the time, involuntarily. Upon inhalation, the diaphragm contracts and flattens and the chest cavity enlarges.

• Ans- During inhalation, diaphragm contracts & moves down which pulls the ribs

outward. As a result the chest size increases and the lungs expands. Due to which

outside air moves into the lungs causing Inhalation.

• During exhalation, diaphragm relaxes & moves up which pushes the ribs inward. As a

result the chest size decreases and the lungs contracts . Due to which inside air moves

out of the lungs causing Exhalation.
