Explain the role of fuse in series with any electrical appliance in an electrical circuit. Why should a fuse with defined rating for an electric circuit not to be replaced by one with a larger rating '.

Fuse is a wire which is made up of a material with appropriate melting point and low resistivity. It is connected in series with the appliances to prevent shortcircuiting. When current that is higher than the defined value flows throuh the circuit, the fuse melts and breaks the circuit, thereby protecting the device.
