The roles of saliva in digestion are as follows _

It Moisten the food that we intake .

It hydrolysis the food for further digestion and makes the passage of partially digested food smooth during peristaltic movement.

Thirdly, it is secreated by a gland named salivary gland which helps in the break down of food into simpler sugar substances..
