Answer:

The social media is a powerful platform today as we are in the digital age and almost everyone is always online. The most famous example of a social media is Facebook. Social media can be both good and bad; bad because of the fake news and information that we can get. But it is good because we can use it as a platform to discuss issues and share our thoughts and solutions.

In the issue of human rights, social media can be a venue for victims to share their stories and for the authorities to expose the perpetrators. Example is the advocacy  #standup4humanrights where all people are being called to stand up for equality, justice and human dignity.

Answer:

Role of own beliefs, ideologies and worldviews in media reporting

One’s personal beliefs, ideologies, and worldwide views in media reporting play a very significant role. Media will project only that opinion or view that the persons operating the media intend to be projected to people.

Media can easily form public opinion by telecasting programs such as debates, discussions, interviews, reports, etc. covering one particular aspect. It happens in all nations, including ours also.

There are a number of channels, especially the news channels that are owned and run by people having different beliefs and ideologies. Each channel tries to telecast national political news according to its own belief and ideology. We have seen if a particular news channel projects a particular incident or event from one particular angle, the other that has a different ideology projects it totally from a different angle.

For example, in a recent conflict between India and Pakistan after Pulwama terrorist attack, Indian TV channels were presenting the same situation from Indian angle; and the Pakistani channels were presenting the event from Pakistani angle. Pakistan never admitted their F-16 was downed by an Indian Mig 21, whereas India presented solid proofs of it being downed by an Indian jet, which also got downed by another Pakistani jet. So, each country was projecting its own selected part of the event.

Worldwide view also affects media reporting. For example, what the international media thinks about an event also matters in forming public opinion. If majority of people in the world feel and think a particular event is right or wrong, then the media also has to keep the worldwide view in mind while reporting. For example, the entire world supported Indian side when the infrastructure of an organization involved in the Pulwama attack was assaulted by Indian jets, the worldwide view justified India’s action. Even Pakistan felt the international pressure and had to take actions such as banning certain organizations, releasing the captured pilot, etc.

So, we see, beliefs, ideologies, and worldwide views play quite an important role in media reporting.
