Civilizations developed around rivers because their waters provided places to hunt and fish. Also, as the rivers flooded, the lands around them became fertile which helped in agriculture.When early humans began farming, they were able to produce enough food that they no longer had to migrate to their food source.and they were able to live in a group. with the transportation travelling became easier. and in olden days people lived near river valley because valleys are most fertile region and the first human settlement were all done to do agriculture. The fertile soil in these regions were best suited for agriculture. Hence people first settled near river valleys.
