Women played a very significant role in french revolution. Most of the women belonging to third estate worked for a living.Their occupations included dress makers, fruit vendors etc. They were not trained for any job and were largely uneducated. When the prices of bread rose rapidly, women revolted against this as bread was their staple food. Also,In order to discuss and voice their interests, women started their own political clubs and newspapers.About 60 women`s clubs came up in different French cities. One of their main demands was that women enjoy the same political rights as men.Women were disappointed that the Constitution of 1791 reduced them to passive citizens i.e, they don`t have the right to vote.In the early years, the revolutionary govt. did introduce laws that helped improve the lives of women.Women`s struggle for equal political rights, however, continued. The example of the political activities of french women during the revolutionary years kept alive as an inspiring memory. It was finally in 1946 that women in france won the right to vote.In this way, women played a significant role during the french revolution.
