In this experiment Rutherford made fast moving alpha particles to fall on a gold foil.

He found that most of the particles passed the gold foil very few were deflected and some were largely deflected.

He concluded that most of the part inside the foil were empty

As some were deflected therefore positive charge occupies little space .

As some were largely deflected therefore positive charge and mass of nucleus is concentrated in a very small space inside the atom.
