Explination

The positive charge and most of the mass of an atom was concentrated in à small region called nucleus.

The nucleus is surrounded by electron that move around the nucleus in circular path called orbit

Electrons and nucleus held together by electrosatatic force.

Observation:

Most of the alpha particle are passed through the gold foil undeflected.

A small fraction of alpha particle was deflected by small angle.

A very few alpha particle bounced back that is deflected by nearly 180 degree

Conclusion:

Most of the space in the atom is empty as most of the alpha particle passed through undeflected.

The deflection of few alpha particle and very few alpha particle bounced back indicate protons are present at the center of the atom.

The positive charged particles present at the center of the atom is called nucleus and the volume of nucleus is negligible compared to the volume of an atom.
