Answer:
Currently India has 17% of world output of dairy products, surpassing USA in 1998 as world’s largest producer of dairy. All this was achieved by operation Flood which was launched in 70’s.
As majority of Indian population still lives in rural area there is a huge scope to increase dairy production. It will have a deep impact on rural economy and rural society as well; in following ways:
a) Alternate source of income for small and landless farmers
b) Can help small farmers to reduce dependence on crop sales
c) Can increase source of income of farmers in low yielding areas like Marathwada. Bundelkhand etc
This can also be a tool of reducing farmer suicides in India as well.
In last few years U.P government has done some great work in increasing cattle and dairy production in U.P.
