The Second Order- The nobility

• The first order included the Priests and the second order included Nobles(land owners).

• The nobles had a central role in social process, because they controlled land. This control was a outcome of practice called vassalage.

Vassalage- it was a main cause of relationship between lords and landowners, nobles were vassals to lords and peasants were vassals to landowners.

• Noblemans had accepted the lords as their sieghneur(senior) and made a mutual promise- nobles would be loyal to him and sieghneur will protect their vassals.

• The nobles had enjoyed the privileged status.

• This relationship between lords and nobles included elaborate rituals and exchange oaths which had been practiced on Bible in the Church.

• Nobles had absolute control over their properties which were cultivated by peasants. Peasants were also meant to work in wars as a soldier, whenever needed.
