With the 42nd Amendment of theConstitution of India enacted in 1976, the Preamble to the Constitutionasserted that India is a secular nation. However, neither India's constitutionnor its laws define the relationship between religion and state.

It means citizens have complete freedom to follow any religion.But there is no official religion. Government treats all religious beleifa and practices with equal respect.
