PERISTALTIC MOVEMENT:

The contraction and relaxation of muscles of alimentary canal is referred as peristaltic movement.

due to peristaltic movement the bolus reach to the stomach, so it is concluded that the movement of the food in alimentary canal is due to the peristaltic movement.
