The preamble of the Indian constitution is like a rough draft of the entire Constitution consisting of the main subjects that the constitution would consist of in detail. It is something like an index. It starts with the words "WE, the people of India having solemnly resolved to constitue India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure all itscitizens;
JUSTICE;social, economic and political'
LIBERTY;of thought, expression , belief , faith and worship,
EQUALITY;of status and opportunity,
and to promote among them all FRATERNITY  assuring the dignity of the individual and unity and integrity of the Nation, IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this 26th day of November 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION"

Significance of Preamble:
i) Real Authority : The Preamble makes the people of India the source of real authority.
ii) Emphasis : The words SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC appear in bold letters to emphasise their importance.
iii) Integrated Whole : No commas or breaks have been used between the words SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC. Its significance is considered as the soul & spirit of Our Constitution.
It sees that all religions get the equal respect, they have a right to say in the government etc.
