The Lagoon is a short story which revolves around romanticism, adventure and realism. The story has been titled 'Lagoon' probably because just as a lagoon is a smaller water body separated from a larger water body, similarly he has been separated from his brother.

Arsat is the protagonist of the story who elopes with his lover, Diamelen, the servant of the wife of a Raja. This story depicts different emotions that arise while the story progresses such as Arsan’s selfishness of not helping his brother and the remorse he feels for abandoning him. The final structure of the story unfolds with Diamelen’s death and Arsat’s preparation for vengeance of his brother’s death.
