You can produce hydrogen by carrying out simple and safe reactions in a lab.

Add aluminium(Al) powder to an aqueous solution of Hydrogen chloride(HCl).

After the reaction takes place, you will find a yellow precipitate (aluminium chloride) and hydrogen gas will be evolved you won't be able to sense it as it is colorless and odorless but you can confirm it's presence by bringing a lit matchstick above the flask and you can hear a popping sound.

The following is the reaction:

Al + HCl(dil.) --> AlCl3 + H2(gas)
