Importance of roadways :

a. It is an important mode of transportation for the mobility of goods and people for short and medium distances.

b. They are cheaper to construct and maintain as compared with railways.

c. It provides door to door service thereby reducing the overall cost of loading and unloading.They connect fields with markets, factories and farms.

d. Roads can be built even at higher altitudes, mountain areas.

e. Road transport is also used as a feeder to other modes of transport such as they provide a link between railway stations, air and sea ports

Importance of railways:

1) Railways are the principal mode of transportation for freight and passengers in India. 

2) Railways also make it possible to conduct many activities like business, sightseeing, and pilgrimage along with transportation of goods over longer distances. 

3) Apart from an important means of transport the Indian Railways have been a great integrating force for more than 150 years. 

Importance of airways :

1.It is the fastest, most comfortable and prestigious mode of transport.

2.Airways can cover difficult topographies such as high mountains, deserts, dense forests and also long oceanic stretches with ease.

3.To provide help in case of floods, dissected relief, dense forests and other natural calamities, airways are very resourceful.

4.Air travel has made access to transporting heavy loads in very less time easier.

Importance of waterways : 

1. Cheapest means of transport. 

2. Fuel efficient 

3. Eco friendly 

4. Useful to carry heavy and bulky goods.
