when any metal expose to high temparature it undergose thermal expansion which is

l'=αl

l'=α∆t

where α is cofficient of expention

so l'=αl∆t

since here statement show cofficient of expention of mercury mean how much mercury expand with raise in temprature

so it expand to 0.00018m or 1.8*10-⁴m/raise in every 1°c in temprature
