Indian agriculture remained unaffected during the British rule. Traditional style of farming was in practice all the way up to 1947.
Towards the end of the 18th century, British’s realized the potential of Indian agricultural commodities such as Indigo and cotton seeds. This resulted in growing demand for these products and imposition from the government to grow such crops in large quantities.
Thus, began commercialization of crops in India.
