The apparatus consist of an electrolytic tank containing acidified cuso4 solution as electrolyte, a thick strip of impure copper is taken as anode and a thin stripe of pure copper is taken as cathode.

When electric current passes through, impure copper from the anode dissolves and goes into the cuso4 solution and pure copper from the solution settle/ deposit at cathode. The soluble impurities goes into the solution whereas the insoluble impurities collect below the anode as anode mud.

At cathode,

                    Cu2+ +2e-  >gives Cu

At anode,

                  Cu gives Cu2+ 2e-

please draw the diagram from the textbook.

as it is a sulphide ore we hear it in the presence of oxygen ,and the process is roasting
cu2s + 2O2 ---- 2cuo+ so2
