Answer:
The steps involved in respiration are as follows:
•Pulmonary ventilation or breathing through which atmospheric air is drawn in and carbon dioxide-rich air is given out
•Diffusion of gases across the alveolar membrane
•Gaseous transport by the blood
•Diffusion of carbon dioxide and oxygen between tissues and blood
•Oxygen is used by cells for catabolic reactions and resultant release of carbon dioxide
Hope it helps you..
Answer: 1. Ventilation (Mechanical breathing)
2. Gaseous exchange
3. transport of gases
4. breakdown of food to generate energy
Explanation:
Step 1: mechanical breathing
for inspiration, external intercoastal muscle and diaphragm contacts. Due to which rib cage moves upward and upward and there is increase in surface area. Leading to decrease in intra pulmonary pressure. Due to decrease in intra pulmonary pressure air rushes inside
for expiration: contracted muscles relaxes. That cause rib cage to moves downward and inward causing increase in intra pulmonary pressure. Hence air rushes out.
step 2:
gaseous exchange depends on few factors and it occurs at alveoli
1. width of respiratory membrane (epithelial membrane of alveoli+ basement membrane + endothelial membrane of blood vessels)
2. solubility of gases (carbon dioxide is 20 times more soluble than oxygen)
3. affinity of hb towards gases (CO> Oxygen > carbon dioxide)
at alveoli, according to pressure gradient of gases ( higher pressure to lower) gaseous exchange occur That is pO2 is 104mmhg in alveoli while 45mmg in pulmonary vein. So oxygen will move towards blood vessels and saturate it till a pressure of 95-98mmhg. Vice Versa for carbon dioxide
3, transport of gases
