magnesium hydroxide is made up with the mixture of magnesium oxide and water
, Add nitric acid to a piece of magnesium in a beaker 
(1 : 1 mole ratio) 

2. Add the same amount of NaOH to the beaker.. 

3. Filter the mixture. 

4. The filtrate retained is Mg(OH)2.
