It has taken the first step directly from proportionality theorem.

Now, you know AD/DB = AE/EC. And you have to prove AB/AD = AC/AE.

Think about how you get it from the first step. You know AB = AD+BD and similarly AC= AE+EC. You will get the desired result by first taking reciprocal and then add 1.

Similarly, for the second part, you just need to add 1.

I don't know if you are looking for this. The steps are already explained in the book. Why it is doing so? - because that's the way to get the answer. To solve these kind of questions, these steps are normally used.

poojakumaresh26: by bpt cant we directly say AB/AD = AC/ AE... directly as they are ratios..m
poojakumaresh26: and it is said that if a line intersects parallel its ratio is equal even if we take in any combination...in this are we just proving whish we already know?!
