It is the basic structural and functional unit of nervous system. It consists of cyton or cell body.It has dendrites which are short branching structures arising from the cyton. And last one is axon which are fine terminal nerve endings.
Neuron constitute the peripheral nervous system . There are two types of nerves---sensory nerves which carry impulses from body parts to brain and motor nerves which carry commands or messages from brain to body parts.

thor211: i have doubt
SnehalD: why?
thor211: BRO...should we also describe about how electrical impulse os carried by the neuron??
SnehalD: electrical impulses ? Impulses are messages which are conducted along a nerve.
thor211: oh ok then. i think this is enough right
thor211: thank u so much bro??
SnehalD: No prob :)

It consists of a cell body also known as the cyton.
This cyton contains the cytoplasm and the nucleus.
The dendrites are short brush like structures arising from the cell body.
There is one main process that branches from the cyton known as the axon.
It is covered by a fatty insulating sheath called the myelin sheath.( only in myelinated neurons)
There are small gaps along the myelin sheath known as the nodes of Ranvier. They increase the speed of transfer

The neurons show high irritability and transfer stimuli along them.
It enables animals to move in accordance with the stimuli from outside and this is a fundament feature of most animals
Basically, they transfer impulses.
