Golgi body consist of many flat disc shaped sacs called cisternae which are stacked parallel to each other.there are varied no. of cisternae in golgi body which are concentrically arranged near the nucleus.

It performs the function of packaging material which are formed by ER and then delivers them to intracellular targets or are secreted outside the cells. It is also an important site for the formation of glycoproteins and glycolipids.
