- Rajya Sabha also known as Council of States is the upper house of the Parliament of India.
- It has around 250 members out of whom 12 are nominated by the President of India for their contributions in art, literature, science etc.
- Rest of the members are elected by State legislatures and Union Territories.
- Usually, the members of Rajya Sabha has a tenure of six year and every 2 years 1/3rd of its members retire from service.
- The Vice President is the ex – officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and he presides over the sessions of Rajya Sabha.
- Deputy Chairman takes over the day – to– day matters or issues of the House in the absence of Chairman.
- Any non-financial bill, in general, has to be approved by Rajya Sabha even if it is approved by Lok Sabha
