kidneys are bean shaped structures about 10 cm long.these are dark red in colour and are present in a single pair in the abdomen of human beings, just above the waist, on either side of the backbone. these are the major excretory organ in human beings.

each kidney consists of a large number of coiled tubes called nephrons. these are the functional units of a kidney.it is the reference that produce the urine that carries away the nitrogenous waste through the uraters and the bladder.
