A cell consists of three parts: the cell membrane, the nucleus, and, between the two, the cytoplasm. Within the cytoplasm lie intricate arrangements of fine fibers and hundreds or even thousands of miniscule but distinct structures called organelles.

Cell Membrane (Plasma Membrane) above is a diagram of a part of the plasma membrane. Note that they are composed of phospholipid molecules and protein. The phosphate heads of each molecule is on the outside of the structure while the lipid tail of each are on the inside part of the membrane.
