A neuron is a structural & functional unit of a nervous system which transmits, receives & conducts the impulses.

It is having a length = 90 - 100 cm

It is devided into 3 categories :-

Cell body :- It consists of central nucleus, cytoplasm & various cell organelles. They are also known as neuro plasm. They help in growth & metabolism activities of neurons.

Dendrites :- The fine & small protoplasmic process of cell body.

It consist of Nissl Granule & neurofibrils.

It help in electrical, mechanical, physical & chemical sensations by intake & transfer to cell body.

Axon :- It is branched terminally .

It carries impulses away from cell body. The branches are known as telodendria. It is covered with nerve fibre. It is a long process .

A single axon develop a cell body. It consists of neuro lemma.

Nissl granules are absent. Neuro fibrils are preset.

Nerve ending :-

Axon terminals are also known as nerve endings .
