Explain the structure of small intestine and described the digestion in small intestine. (for class 10)
Answers
Answer:
It is, on average, 23ft long and is comprised of three structural parts; the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Functionally, the small intestine is chiefly involved in the digestion and absorption of nutrients. It receives pancreatic secretions and bile through the hepatopancreatic duct which aid with its functions.
The majority of chemical digestion occurs in the small intestine. Digested chyme from the stomach passes through the pylorus and into the duodenum. Here, chyme will mix with secretions from both the pancreas and the duodenum. Mechanical digestion will still occur to a minor extent as well.
✿First of all, Let's Understand that what is Small Intestine
Small intestine, a long, narrow, folded or coiled tube extending from the stomach to the large intestine; it is the region where most digestion and absorption of food takes place.
✿The small intestine is divided into three parts:
- Duodenum
- Jejunum
- Ileum
✿Let's Know How Digestion takes place in small intestine:-
- The partially digested food is absorbed by the duodenum of the small intestine along with the digestive juices from the liver, pancreas and its own walls.
- The liver secretes the bile juice, which converts fat into tiny droplets so that their digestion becomes easy.
- The pancreas produces pancreatic juice that breaks down fats into fatty acids and glycerol
- The intestinal juice secreted by the walls of the small intestine breaks down starch and carbohydrates into simple sugars. These sugars are known as glucose. It also converts the proteins into amino acids
- All these simple, broken down forms are called the digested food.
