The leguminous plants grow in nitrogen defecient soil. They have nodules in their roots. In these nodules the nitrogen fixing bacteria (rhizobium bacteria) lives. They fix and provide usable nitrogen to plant and the plant inturn gives them food to survive. Thus with a symbiotic relationship they, help each other.

Hope it helps!!!

Answer:

Rhizobium carry out nitrogen fixation. ... The Rhizobia absorb nitrogen and use it to make proteins and as a by-product it produces nitrogen-containing ammonium which, unlike the N2 in the air, the plant can take up and use for growth (protein production).
